Similarly to other sports, in fencing there are also, next to those that are in the top or aiming for the top, fencers who only do it as a hobby – because it is an enjoyable way to pass the time, while staying physically fit and active. At that, it makes no difference if the person has tried fencing at a younger age or not – it is never too late to take up fencing as a hobby.

Also, fencing is one of the few disciplines in single combat (if not the only one) practiced in Estonia, where a hobbyist that is brave enough to step on the strip may be confronting a World Champion or even a two-time World Champion. However, coming back, the hobbyist will be alive and unscathed and enriched by a memorable experience.
